A few days ago we spent some time at the award winning Chapel Down in Tenterden, Kent. Chapel Down is the undisputed star of the rapidly growing English sparkling wine scene and just happens to be a short drive from Plonkr HQ so we recruited local rural lifestyle photographer Rebecca Gask to come and see what the Chapel Down team were up to and also do a spot of wine tasting in their excellent tasting room.

Charles de Monrency

This Charles de Monrency brut is an extraordinarily good champagne that we discovered completely by accident. We found this bottle in a Carrefour in Southern France and immediately went back and bought a case of it. This champagne drinks like a bottle 10 times more expensive. If you’re in France, keep an eye out because I challenge you to find a better champagne for the price.

Isn’t this is a stunning bottle from Heidsieck? This really jumped out at me as I was scanning the supermarket shelves. Yes, incredibly this was standard fare at rural French supermarket. It was sandwiched between Laurent-Perrier and Veuve Clicquot. French supermarkets are awesome.
